I stumbled upon their Instagram page, kayak Abuja, i was excited and i started making plans with a colleague, i got some tips online about what to wear, what to expect, etc. My budget was #5000 excluding fueling of the car.
On the very day, locating the place was easy with google maps, it is at the national stadium. We met with a little crowd surprisingly, i felt it was I and 10 others that know about it. Little effort was put in the landscaping/architecture and there was little activity to spur up excitement, the water view was beautiful though. We paid #1000 each for an hour(you can exceed but you’ll get tired, except you go with your s.o), but it goes for #2000 on weekends.
Starting out can be a little terrifying, once you get a hang of it the fun sets in. On the kayak, the ‘boat’, you paddle right to go left and vice versa, the kayaking experience was OOONN POOOIIINT!!!!. we were just floating away, taking pictures, which we were warned to keep away to avoid dropping it in the water.
After about half an hour later we got off and swam ashore, no we didn’t, we paddled back, took pictures and called it a day.
In total, it was exciting and thrilling, though there wasn’t much to do and nothing to buy at the place, but the kayaking’s thrill overshadowed the rest. Don’t be afraid, you won’t drown. Learn more on tourism in Nigeria.
